Building Human/Canine Relationships
Are toy breed dogs dropping out of your group classes? Are toy breed puppies not signing up?
Most toy breed puppies don't attend group classes because their owners don't feel comfortable with large breed puppies around. They worry for the safety of their little dog. As they should be. Some people believe that their little dog doesn't need to be trained as they are able to control them very easily.
An additional reason may be: the toy breed owner watches the larger "adolecent" labrador dragging his owner excitedly to class, and all he wants to do is say HI to the chihuahua! This can be a scary momement for both dog and human.
Educating (training) toy breeds does require additional safety considerations, alternate methods and additional lessons in order for them to grow up to be confident and happy little dogs.
Shana Carranco, The Holistic Dog Trainer has put together various tele-seminars, workshops in order for you, the professional can integrate toy breeds into your classes and help you develop classes specific to little dogs.
